Celebrate the magic of National Novel Writing Month together at the All-berta Write-a-thon! Bend time to your will, writing through the night among the bones of the past.

Date: 7:30pm Friday, Nov. 5th to 10am Saturday, Nov. 6th

Location: Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology, 1500 North Dinosaur Trail, Drumheller

Cost: $60/participant – sponsored spots will be available if we meet minimum registration

Take home an extra bit of inspiration: registration includes admission to the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology on Saturday, Nov. 7th!

What You Need to Know:

Wrimos will have access to the Museum through the Learning Centre entrance at 7:30pm on Friday. We need to be backed up, packed up, and out without a trace by 10am (the upstairs Learning Lounge needs to be vacated by 9am, but the Multi-Purpose Room and Creative Suite are available until 10am). We will be able to visit the Museum galleries starting at 10am on November 9 when they are open to the public, otherwise they are off-limits overnight.

The $60 registration fee covers only the cost of the venue, with a portion of each fee going toward a scholarship fund for Wrimos who are not able to afford the cost. We require a minimum of 44 paid registrations to cover the rental fee, which will create up to 6 sponsored registrations before we reach the venue’s capacity. The fee is payable only once we’ve confirmed enough registrations to run the event.

To keep the cost as accessible as possible, we ask that participants bring snacks to share (you may also bring food for personal use if you like). The Museum has given us access to kitchen space with a fridge, microwave, and sinks. Please note that alcoholic beverages are not permitted by our venue, and food is limited to the Multi-Purpose Room and the eating space attached to the Learning Lounge.

The Multi-Purpose Room can be darkened for shut eye as needed, but participants are responsible for providing their own bedding. You will be sleeping on the floor, so consider bringing a foam or air mattress for comfort. If you would prefer to sleep at a hotel or with friends in town, you can arrange to attend only for a portion of the event.

The spaces we will be using at the Museum are wheelchair accessible, with accessible washrooms, an elevator, and tables of varying heights.

The All-berta Write-a-thon is an adult event. However, teens 16 and older may register if they will be attending with adult.

We understand that different writers require different environments to create, and we’ll do our best to create both quiet and more energetic areas within the spaces we’ll be using. That said, if you require quiet to write, please bring earplugs or noise-cancelling headphones just in case.

What to Expect:

Word sprints, milestone celebrations, new friends, writerly swag, abundant snackage, and a glowing sense of accomplishment. We also have some surprises in store to match this year’s Time Travel theme!
